Spider-Man 3 Movie Download & Review

Our "friendly neighborhood Spider-Man" is back to thrill us with an action-packed adventure that provides an even better movie experience than Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 combined. This new release lacks nothing. It’s full of exciting action sequences, climactic drama, humor, and a few nasty villains. Spider-Man 3 checks in on our hero, Peter Parker, just as a tangling web of conflicts arise with his former best friend, Harry Osborne, girlfriend Mary Jane Watson, and two newest enemies – Sandman and Venom. With the addition of new characters comes the need to establish their role in the overall Spider-Man story. One weakness in Spider-Man 3 could have been its inability to set up an organized storyline. But, it was an impressive strength. The plots aren’t overwhelming and the story is easy to follow.
Spider-Man 3: The Concluding Story
Director Sam Raimi, with the help of screenwriter Alvin Sargent and the talented cast, bring Spider-Man’s continuing saga to life in this exceptional film as it concludes the story started in Spider-Man (2002). Harry and Peter are fighting over what really lead to the death of Harry’s father. Spider-Man finally is honored by the city as a hero. He's also getting some attention from Gwen Stacy, one of Peter’s classmates, upsetting his relationship with Mary Jane, the love of his life. Two fierce new villains are born. All the while, a battle rages within Spider-Man. He must choose to remain good or become evil, to forgive or take revenge.
It’s this personal struggle that makes this a memorable film. Over the past five years, fans have watched Peter grow up through these movies. Strong moral character has been his identity. That all changes in Spider-Man 3. Peter really doesn’t know how to act or who to be – a hero or an avenger. Peter begin to relish the boundless power the black suit gives him. He desires to take matters in his own hands and avenge his uncle's murder. Peter's dramatic change is so far from what audiences are familiar with that they may not recognize the hero they’ve grown to love. His flawed character – his pride, vengeful heart, and anger – is magnified as he reveals his darker side.
Who’s Who in Spider-Man 3
Spider-Man 3 welcomes a few new faces to its cast. Academy Award nominee Thomas Haden Church (Sideways) joins as Flint Marko, a low level thug who later becomes Sandman. That’s 70’s Show TV star Topher Grace plays opposite Tobey as Eddie Brock, Jr., Peter Parker’s competition at the Daily Bugle. He’s also transforms into Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis – Venom. Bryce Dallas Howard from M. Night Shyamalan's The Village and Lady in the Water is Gwen Stacy and Spider-Man creator Stan Lee makes a cameo appearance.
Adding these great actors gives the movie an extra boost in the acting category. There’s one actor in particular who absolutely wows. Topher Grace’s performance as Venom is unforgettable. With the help of special effects team, he breathes life into this incredible creature. Die-hard fans may not like Topher in this role since Venom is a much large and older man in the comic books. But, Topher’s ability to show Eddie Brock’s deep desperation and his transformation into this enemy of Spider-Man is impressive. He’s also got the Tobey Maguire look, which lends itself to director Raimi’s desire to portray Venom as Spider-Man’s opposite.
Spider-Man 3 also has instances of well-placed humor. In particular, watch for a scene between Tobey Maguire’s character Peter Parker and a restaurant maitre d’ played by the always funny Bruce Campbell. You may remember him from the first two movies. He was the wrestling fight announcer in the first Spider-Man movie and the snooty theater usher in Spider-Man 2.
The Flaw in Spidey’s New Film
There’s not much to say as far as disappointments in what could be this summer’s biggest box office hit. But, there is one let down. It seems to be getting harder for directors to keep epic films like this one to a reasonable length. This one is 2 hours and 20 minutes. My advice: don’t drink a lot of soda because you will not want to miss anything. Although Spider-Man 3 has a fairly long ending, its exciting story makes it a forgivable offense.
What to Expect
Parents, this film is not suitable for young kids. It’s rated PG-13 for sequences of intense action violence. There's no gore or over-the-top violence, but it’s an action movie so some violence is to be expected. Foul language is at a minimum. Despite the violent battles starring Spidey and his foes, moviegoers will learn valuable lessons. Peter Parker's journey through Spider-Man 3 shows just how destructive pride can be even to a legendary hero and also the healing power of forgiveness. It really is the best flick of the three. Tobey Maguire agrees, saying this one is his favorite. Topher Grace, a comic book fan, is just happy to be a part of the project. He even jokingly says he would have done the film without pay.
Sony Pictures announced the possibility of Spider-Man 4 in the near future. But no decisions have been made as far as who will direct and star in it. The three powerhouse celebs involved this franchise – director Sam Raimi and actors Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst – all aren’t sure if and how they’ll be a part of the fourth movie. They have said that if there’s a good story to tell and the team stays together, then fans could see Tobey don the red and blue suit once again. For now, enjoy this new movie that’s sure to delight millions worldwide. You’ll be glad you bought your $10 movie ticket. Trust me, its well worth the time and money.

The Hitcher Movie Download & Review

As the opening frames for The Hitcher inform us, 48,000 people die each year on the road each year. I know these sorrows have a variety of causes. Some are pure tragic accident, some the fault of inebriation, and some the fault of forgetting a turn signal or not watching a blind spot. Somehow, I doubt being sliced up by Brits in the middle of the New Mexico desert registers in the top five.
After attempting to briefly educate us about the perils of driving, The Hitcher (a remake of the 1986 cable standby) then jumps straight into the action. A guy (Zachary Knighton) waits impatiently for his girlfriend outside her dorm with a 1970 Oldsmobile 442. As he sits by his muscle car and she (Sophia Bush) comes out with nothing but pajamas and a small backpack on, The Hitcher feels like it should turn into a Penthouse story at any moment. They hop in the car, and before we even get their names we get to see Bush changing in the car and going on the road.
I mean I know horror movies aren't really about the characters, but were the writers so lazy they couldn't even come up with a major? A school? A college friend? Any indication of how these two know each other?
In fact, as far as I remember we don't ever find out the answers to any of those questions. The good news is that as soon as we run into the creepy sociopath (a wonderfully chilling Sean Bean), we don't really care.
They first meet him on a dark, stormy night. They're barreling down an unknown state route in the middle of the desert, he's standing in the middle of the road, and from the moment we see him, cinematographer James Hawkinson makes him look like the creepiest thing alive. She begs her boyfriend not to pick the hitcher up, and at the first of many cheaply drawn scare moments the predictable engine trouble almost prevents them from leaving the crazy man in the rain.
They escape to a gas station with the first in a long string of nameless stupid hick side characters. The hitcher has mystically managed to hop another ride to the exact same gas station, and ends up asking his way into hitching a ride.
The brief (and only) scene where they haven't figured out that he's a sociopath is about as much background as we get. We finally learn everyone's name: he's Jim, she's Grace, and the creepy Brit in the middle of the desert is John Ryder. He finds out they're on their way to spring break. Then he decides to break their cell phone and starts trying to kill them.

The amazing thing about The Hitcher is that while you can sit down and rethink its plot and realize what an empty movie it is, it's impossible to take your eyes or mind off of for long enough to let the stupidity sink in. You're soaked into the mess within a few minutes and don't get to leave until the end of the movie. Bean's sociopath is impossible to look away from, even though he's shown just slightly more often than Jaws was. Hawkinson's cinematography manages to make sun-drenched deserts creepy, and only offers brief and horrifying glimpses of the massacres.
While the script leaves much to be desired, it provides a lower number of groan-level disbelief moments then the average horror fare. There are plot holes that you can drive a small semi through, but sweet sociopathic distraction (and destruction) is almost always right around the corner. The Hitcher is simple and suspenseful, solely because of Bean's sociopath and Hawkinson's cinematic craftsmanship. It's worth a late night rental for only those reasons. If you took them away, The Hitcher would probably be just another sad movie by the side of the road waiting for January viewers to grab a ride.

The Da Vinci Code Movie Download & Review

The phrases “most anticipated movie of the summer” and “huge disappointment” seem to go hand in hand quite often. Early buzz for Ron Howard’s adaptation of “The Da Vinci Code” suggest that fans of the book and those that have been hoping to see what all the fuss is about without having to actually read should prepare for the worst. Is “Code” a bust or just a victim of impossible expectations? I’ve just finished breaking the code and now I can confidently say that the latter is true.
Much of the media frenzy surrounding the movie comes from the controversy created by the Catholic Church. Faithful Catholics have banded together to educate the world that most of Dan Brown’s novel is complete fiction. I’m really glad we all got this clarification. It almost makes you feel proud of the US government that they didn’t launch a campaign to set the record straight that “National Treasure” may not be historically accurate as well. And I don’t remember any rabbis upset that “Raider’s of the Lost Ark” took some creative liberties.
At best, Brown’s novel is a silly yet exciting page turner that plays into our love for conspiracy. Sure, some people are bound to wonder “what if,” but that’s just part of the fun. Fiction often makes suggestions of government corruption or conspiracy. There are always going to be those that take the bait, but why the Catholic Church actually takes this seriously seems to be a mystery in itself.
Because of all the media coverage (even on ESPN) there is no need to tell anyone more than they may already know about the plot. If you have actually managed to escape coming across any spoilers, consider yourself lucky.
For those that already read the novel, the good news is that Howard’s film is extremely faithful to its source material. There are a few lines that I remembered which didn’t make the final cut, but this movie is more or less the novel.
As a result, the movie’s strengths and weaknesses are largely reflective of those in the book. For instance, the best scene in the book is when the character Teabing tells the controversial legend in his mansion. The same holds true in the movie. Ian McKellen, as always, steals every moment of screen time he is given. Part of that is because McKellen is actually a wizard, but Teabing was my favorite character in the book as well.
Tom Hank’s Robert Langdon doesn’t quite work. He just doesn’t provide the hero required for such a thriller. Not to stir up my own controversy, but I’m not a huge fan of Langdon in the book either. Being a symbologist always seemed a bit silly. Heck, my spell checker doesn’t like it either. I guess that’s what you do when the communications and archeology schools don’t accept your application.
The problem is that Langdon doesn’t seem to contribute too much. His knowledge helps to solve a few puzzles, but Hanks doesn’t seem to believe anything his own character is saying. Some of the weakest moments in the film should have been Hank’s strongest.
Howard rushes through the scenes at the Louvre, which provide the main hook in the novel. Part of this strategy was to keep the excitement up by always positioning Langdon right on the edge of getting into trouble. This does keep things moving, but consequentially one of the best parts of the book doesn’t get the treatment it deserves.
Overall Brown’s story and Howard’s film provides an above the bar suspense thriller with some fresh and wild theories. For those that are disappointed, I ask what you expected. There are a lot of really awful movies that come out each year that just recycle dialog, plot points, and even complete scenes. If this same movie were to come out minus the expectations associated with Hanks and Howard, and if it weren’t based on one of the most popular and controversial books of recent memory, I suspect that reviews would be significantly more positive across the board. Folks might accurately recognize it for what it is, a jolly good piece of fiction and a pleasant way to kill a few hours.

Freedom Writers Movie Download & Review

Based on a true story of a young naive idealistic white teacher who gets a job in a ethnically diverse gang-ridden high school. No this isn't Dangerous Minds, it's Freedom Writers, adapted from the diaries of Woodrow Wilson High School students, and starring Oscar winning Hilary Swank as a first time teacher who is trying to change the world, or at least teach a couple kids there is a world beyond the self created borders.
Following the time tested story formula, Eric Gruwell (Hilary Swank) is faced with the harsh reality of a reform school and an uncontrollable class of students. She must earn their trust and change their lives, and she must accomplish this task before the lights come up in the movie theater. It's like an episode of 24, but without the ticking timer, or Jack Bauer, or torture. Actually, the more I think about it, it's nothing like an episode of 24.
I must admit that going into Freedom Writers, I wasn't expecting much. Actually I wasn't expecting anything. The film's poster looks like something photoshopped by a fourth grader. The almost nonexistent marketing and January release date is a sign of no studio confidence. All signs pointed to failure. But I was wrong. No, the film will probably fail - I am pretty positive the awareness of the film is next to none. And that's too bad, because it's a descent movie which deserves to be seen.
A little too simplified and exaggerated at times, Writers is an emotional and inspirational story of a bunch of inner city kids with no future who find a way to rise above. It's good natured, heat-wrenching but sometimes badly executed. I get it. I know that the movie was based on the journals written by the actual Freedom Writers Gruwell taught in the mid-90's. But there is no reason to turn such text into exposition-filled narration over montage after montage. This film could have played better without the voice over.
Too cluttered for it's 123 minute running time, a few of the characters back-stories could have been left out in the rough draft process to give the story a little breathing room. A storyline involving Gruwell's ignored and failing relationship with husband Scott Casey (Patrick Dempsey) lacks any emotional or story value.
It would have been interesting to see Freedom Writers adapted into a one hour dramatic television series where each season recounted a school year. While the time length wouldn't have provided the dramatic visual change in the characters that this two hour movie can provide, it could have focused on a lot more students, charting each ones development.
The screenwriter of TheHorse Whisperer and Blow, Richard LaGravenese makes his fictional feature film debut, and it shows. There is montages which feel fake or forced. None of the performances can be considered stand outs, which is sad considering the talent.
But thankfully, in the end this film is not just another Dangerous Minds (which turned out to be less of a movie and more of a launching pad for Coolio's Gangsters Paradise single). Freedom Writers has some touching moments in between lapses of bad writing and direction. It's those moments, which are sometimes (effectively) emotionally manipulative, in which this becomes a film worthy of your time.
